questionHow do I backup my data?
answerSimply select the data you wish to backup by clicking in the circle next to it. When you wish to backup click the “Backup” icon and the software will immediately transfer your files (providing you are online).
questionWhat do the colours mean when I select files for backup?
answerTo see the meaning of all the colours open Legal Backup and go to “Help” on the toolbar, then “Icon Legend” and this will give you a dropdown list of what all the different colours mean.
questionCan I exclude specific files within a folder from backup?
answerYes. If you wish to backup a whole folder but exclude specific files within it then right click on the folder in the left hand file manager box of the My Computer screen and select “Include folder“. This will select the whole folder, turning it green, and it will open to show the files within it in the right-hand box. To exclude a file simply click it and it will turn red.
questionWhat are filters and how do they work?
answerInstead of using the file manager box on the left-hand side to select folders and files, filters are an alternative method of including particular types of files to be backed up. To use this function open Legal Backup and go to “Selection” and “Filters”. This then gives you the option to create your own filters, choose predetermined ones, or edit filters you have already set up.
questionWhen can I backup?
answerWhenever you like. You can initiate a backup when you want and set the time for your automatic backup for whenever you want. As long as your computer is logged on and online you don’t need to be there or do a thing for the automatic backup to take place.
questionIf my internet connection is slow what is the best way of executing my initial backup?
answerIf your initial backup is so large that you would have trouble executing it all in one go, particularly if your internet connection is slow, then you have two options:

You can choose a smaller selection of files to begin with and add new ones as you go along. As only the new files and the changes to the original files will be sent this will limit the amount of bandwidth used at one time.

Or

You can limit the amount of data sent at any one time. To do this open Legal Backup, go to “Tools” on the toolbar, then “Options”. Go to the “Performance and Limits” tab and at the bottom is a section labelled “Limits” which allows you to limit both the transfer speed and the size of each backup. However, once modified it may take several backups before all your files are transferred.

questionIs my data compressed?
answerYes, your data is compressed before it is transferred. When you restore your data from the data centre the data is uncompressed on your PC. This keeps transfer times to a minimum.
questionWhat is incremental backup?
answerThis is a way to further reduce the amount of data transferred to the data centre. For details of this, please click here
questionCan I run other applications at the same time?
answerYes, the Legal Backup software can run in the background so that you can run other applications at the same time, including Internet Explorer and Mail. However, if a file or email selected for backup is open when the backup runs then it may be excluded from that backup.
